As part of our ongoing For a Green Halong Bay initiative, Indochina Junk embarked on an extensive environmental clean-up project in October 2024, focusing on both Bè Vỡ Lagoon and Trà Giời Beach in the Cống Đỏ and Cống Đầm areas of Bai Tu Long Bay. This project, under the tagline Together, We Clean, aimed to collect and remove waste from these more remote areas, reflecting our deep commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Halong Bay and its surrounding ecosystems.

In collaboration with Aloha Electricity, the College of Industrial and Construction, and the Board of Management of Halong Bay, our team took on the challenging task of cleaning up wooden debris from old floating houses, foam (polystyrene), and plastic household waste that had accumulated in these untouched regions of the bay.

Bè Vỡ Lagoon: Tackling Heavy Wooden Debris and Foam Floats

At Bè Vỡ Lagoon, the team focused on collecting large wooden logs and pieces that once formed parts of floating homes used by local fishermen. Additionally, foam floats (polystyrene), which pose a significant environmental threat, were also removed from the water and shoreline. The cleanup involved removing other plastic debris as well, restoring the coastline to its natural state.

Trà Giời Beach: Cleaning One of Bai Tu Long Bay’s Hidden Gems

The efforts continued at Trà Giời Beach, a long and stunning beach in the Cống Đầm area. The team, including members from Indochina Junk and our partners, worked diligently to remove a significant amount of waste, including polystyrene, plastic bottles, and other discarded materials. The sheer volume of waste collected highlights the importance of such environmental efforts in maintaining the ecological health of these beautiful but often overlooked areas of Bai Tu Long Bay.

Moving Forward: Commitment to a Greener Halong Bay

Indochina Junk’s For a Green Halong Bay initiative is a long-term commitment to sustainability, ensuring that both the popular and less-frequented areas of the bay remain clean and protected for future generations. Through ongoing efforts like Together, We Clean, we hope to inspire our guests, partners, and local communities to take action and contribute to preserving this UNESCO World Heritage site.
